I am an inexperienced new owner of a bass boat with a 115hp merc that starts right up and runs great on land, but only moves at about 5knots at max throttle. I removed the hotfoot; I thought it was unsafe for my experience level. The motor stalls often as soon as I put in gear. I have no reverse in the water; I am sure that's an adjustment issue. My portable fuel tank is brand new, along with bulb and lines. I have visually inspected all wiring that I am able, all seems to be in good condition. I plan to remove the 3 carbs this wknd an clean. Any other suggestions? SORRY SO LONG WINDED. First time in forum.

I recommend completing a compression test. Check spark on all cylinders. Check the ignition timing. The carburetors should help, be sure to thoroughly clean and verify all passages are clear.Regards
