Tilt Problems

We have Mercury 40 hp motor that we are having problems with the tilt on it. It worked fine last year and now this year we started to have trouble. It seems to work when it wants to. Currently, when it does this we have to hit the cylinder and it may begin to work.

We are not sure what to do at this point because it it very frustrating when we need to raise and lower the motor and we are unable to.

Please let us know what we can do to fix this.
