  • Rigging a pontoon

Good Morning. I had a few questions and was hoping to get some advice as to what direction I should focus.

I bought a 2009 Sun Tracker Party Barge 21. It did not come out an outboard but was pre-rigged with quicksilver controls. I live on a small lake and we are HP restricted to 9.9 hp outboards.

I bought a 2005 Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 ELB (serial 0R064498). I went to install it and realized I was missing the steering linkage kit which i will have to order.

When I was trying to hook up the throttle and shift cables, The connections on the outboard do not match up with my quicksilver connection ends. The quicksilver cable ends have a black plastic end measure 3-4 inches in lenght. The outboard I bought came with throttle/shift cables and the throttle box and the ends on those cable are a light gray larger diameter circle connection that fit onto my outboard and then are cotter pinned in.

My question is, do i need to re-rigg with new throttle cables or is there an adpater piece to connect my outboard to the pre-existing quicksilver throttle cables on my sun tracker.

    Thank you in advance
    Shaun

      Sounds like you need cables.
You need to be sure and pull the cables out on the box you are going to use. You could have either Gen 1 or Gen 2, not interchangeable on the box end,

From what I can tell. The boat had gen I cables and my outboard came with gen II.

I'm going to call a local marine before I do anything though. Probably spring for new cables all together anyway.

        Thank you for your advice.

Gen 1 or Gen 2 refers to the box end of the cables.
