  • oil tank and switch

i have a 2006 250xs merc.im getting an oil alarm from the smart craft guage. the oil tank on the motor is full,so im guessing i have a faulty switch or the float in the tank isnt working. my question is how can i determine if the problem is the switch that goes in the tank or the float that is in the tank.... the switch is not attached to the float.

    It's the tank.
Save your money, don't buy a switch.

        Oil Sensor 4 beeps pause

I am assuming you have 4 beeps followed by a pause then 4 beeps. Smartcraft or merc monitor records oil alarm. If your onboard tank is full or more than 1/3 check your tank on the engine. Save yourself time money and aggravation. Replace the tank which will include the sensor. Just went through this with my 2005 250 XS. You will need to bleed the on engine tank to let all the air out. This is important. All the air must be bled.

Sorry I misread your post. If you are sure the tank on the engine is full with no air bubbles. I agree that the sensor in the on boat tank could be faulty or you could have the float in the on boat tank touching the side. It must run lengthwise to operate correctly. The wires to that sensor are not polarity sensitive but some have connectors that can come loose from handling.

        Hope this helps! Good Luck!

If you have 4 beeps every 3 minutes and an oil alarm on your smartcraft the only thing it's going to be is the tank if it is full to the top.
The boat tank will give you a low oil display but no audible alarm.

And Just-in Time is correct, there are actually 2 check valves in that system, the one that screws into the bottom of the VST should be replaced annually IMHO
