  • Using my built in fuel take for main motor and kicker

    Evening,

    New to the forum.

Have just added a 9.9 merc, 4 stroke, to my bass boat as i kicker. Main motor is 115 hp injected evinrude.

Can i just splice into the fuel line and add the hose and primer bulb for the 9.9.

Thanks for ant help that may come my way.

    Dave

Ideally install a water separating filter, plumb one motor from each supply port and you will be much better off.

Thanks for your reply. I planned to add a racor unit but was told that the motor has an internal water separator filter and adding a second one would cause problems. Much prefer a racor. The motor is a 1999 Evinrude Ficht 115 hp.

      is this true?

      Thanks

      Dave

It can cause an issue but usually doesn't.
The only way to tell is to install it then run the boat with a vacuum meter installed downstream usually as close to the motor as possible. as long as the vacuum falls within Mfg. specs you're ****en.

Thanks for your help. I will go with a racor with a clear bowl so i can drain the water when necessary. I will install this in the outboard motor well as i understand this is the only safe a legal way to do it.......BTW, I forgot to mention that i am hooking up a flowscan fuel flow meter to the gas line. it needs to be 18 inches from the primer bulb. Do you see any problem with this.

Would my dealer have a vacuum meter to do this test? If there is a problem, what is the solution to solving it. Im thinking that after investing in the racor, i do want to keep it. Do i remove the factory filter. I dont know when it is located.

          Thanks
          Dave

The clear bowl Racor simply has to be above deck, not necessarily in well just not in the bilge, same with your primer bulb.

I think I read somewhere you are running an Etec right?
If so I would recommend using the Etec's gauges to supply fuel flow data, Waaay more accurate than floscan and no additional restriction in your fuel lines.

Too much restriction = bigger ID hoses and fittings and less 90 degree fittings.

you may want 2 put a shut off valve 2 the kicker after the waterseperator fuel filter head. if a problem develops in the 9.9 fuel system, you want to be able to shut off the fuel supply to the problem so it doesnt create a vaccum leak in your fuel system for the BIG JOHNSON.

Unless you disconnect the quick connect from the motor.

yes, thats one way 2 get what you want w/o spending xtra $$$. you still got the fuel line AND PRIMER BULB between the new fuel filter and 9.9...

i have a ficht, not an etec... i already own the flow scan so im stuck with it... worried that restrictions from adding a racor and this may cause a fuel restriction, but i am no expert
