poor running v-150

HELP!!!,
I have a 1988 mercury v-150 {xr2} that gives me fits. At times, mostly on lake erie, the engine will not accelerate, rev up, past 2000 rpm. Advancing the throttle to full throttle does nothing. Sometimes moving the throttle from idle to full back and forth will "coax" it to run normally. This takes 15 minutes or more. It seems as if there is a rev limiter on the engine. I have tried many things to fix this problem, but it is intermitant making it hard to find. If anyone needs more info to troubleshoot this problem, I'll provide it. HELP thanks

1996 Merc 135 V-6 Black Max loses poer/wont rev when hot

Mine does the same thing, but only when hot. runs fine for 30-40 minutes at WOT, but if I throttle back, then try to accelerate, NOTHING. NO increase in RPM, No power even with full throttle. Then I have to limp back to dock at 5 MPH. Think I am losing 3 of 6 cylinders when this happens. Does not act up at home on muffs, only when hot. Therefore, difficult to diagnose. I suspect low speed coil in stator or a switchbox.Any input appreciated.

time to take it in or buy a factory manual

Stator

Sounds like a bad high speed winding in the Stator.

Definitely take it in to look at it.
